INDIANAPOLIS – A 6’3”, 196 lb., right-handed shooting defenseman and native of Plattsburgh, New York, Anders Franzon agreed to terms with the Indy Fuel for the 2014-15 ECHL season, the team announced Thursday. A four-year letter winner at the University of Vermont from 2009 to 2013, Franzon, 25, is the first defenseman signed in Fuel franchise history.

“Anders is a steady defenseman that has a great ability to move the puck,” said Fuel Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman on Thursday. “He’s coming off a strong rookie season and given his steady, reliable play, we believe he has a bright future in professional hockey.”

In 125 career collegiate appearances for Vermont, Franzon totaled four goals and 24 career points, along with 67 combined penalty minutes. In his first professional campaign, Franzon registered ten goals and 31 points for Hillman in 66 games played for the Central Hockey League’s Missouri Mavericks in 2013-14.

“I’m excited to join the Fuel and to begin my ECHL career in Indianapolis,” said Franzon on Thursday. “There’s a lot of rich history hockey-wise in Indy and to be a part of the first year for the Fuel is definitely something special.” A self-described “puck-moving defenseman,” Franzon says Hillman’s presence with the Fuel was a big reason he signed with the team. “It was a great experience playing for Coach Hillman last season,” said Franzon. “He’s a determined, passionate coach that puts everything on the line to win every night…I’m excited to play for him again this year.”

In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud “AA” affiliate of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL. Season ticket packages for the Fuel’s inaugural campaign are available now starting at just under $12 per game!
