INDY SIGNS BELARUSIAN DEFENSEMAN CHAYKA

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs announced Tuesday that they have signed defenseman Kirill Chayka to a standard player contract for the 2021-22 season.

Chayka, 24, comes to the Circle City after spending the 2020-21 season with Kazakhstan’s HK Temirtau where he tallied two goals and eight assists in 25 games. The 6-foot-5, 223-pound defenseman has spent the last two seasons overseas, skating in a total of 73 games earning three goals, 12 assists and 34 penalty minutes. 

The native of Minsk, Belarus played one season for the SPHL’s Fayetteville Marksmen where he tallied one goal and two assists in 34 total games. Prior to turning pro, Chayka spent the 2016-17 season playing for the U-20 Belarus National Team. Skating in 23 games, Chayka earned one goal, five assists and 24 penalty minutes. 

With the signing of Chayka, the Fuel have ten forwards, five defensemen and one goalie signed for the 2021-22 season. Stay tuned to Indy Fuel social media pages for more player signings throughout the offseason.
