INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL’s Rockford IceHogs, announced Tuesday that they have signed forwards Ryan McGrath and Tyler Whitney to ECHL contracts for the 2018-19 season.

McGrath, 27, skated in 63 games for the Quad City Mallards last season, finishing fifth on the team in scoring with 34 points (12g, 22a). The 5-foot-7, 175-pound forward logged six multi-point outings in 2017-18, including a three-point performance against the Kalamazoo Wings on February 2. McGrath spent the 2016-17 campaign in Germany with EC Harzer Falken, where he led his team in all offensive categories, logging 24 goals and 33 assists in 42 games.

A four-year product of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell, McGrath got his first professional experience during a four game stint with the Manchester Monarchs at the end of the 2015-16 season, picking up his first ECHL goal in the process. During his collegiate career, the native of O’Fallon, Mo. recorded 60 points in 139 contests for the River Hawks, while chipping in nine power play goals and six game-winning tallies.

Whitney, 25, made his pro debut on March 11, 2018 after signing a professional tryout agreement with the South Carolina Stingrays. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound rookie forward is coming off his NCAA career at Trinity College (Div. III), where he finished with 41 goals and 63 assists in 107 games. As a junior in 2016-17, Whitney paced the Bantams with 38 points (13g, 25a), while leading the NESCAC in power play points and power play goals.
