Indy Finish Weekend Games Taking on Toledo
Indy finishes three games in three days with matchup against ToledoFeb 1, 2020
BOUNCING BACK: Falling in the first two games of the weekend to the Kalamazoo Wings and Cincinnati Cyclones, the Fuel will host the Toledo Walleye on Saturday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Toledo enters Saturday night having won five straight games, earning a 6-3 win over the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday night. Indy has dropped three out of their last five matchups, although they’ve earned points in four out of the last five.
THE MATCHUP: Saturday night’s game will be the eighth meeting between the two teams, with Indy holding the season record at 6-1-0-0. Three out of the seven matchups have gone to extra time, Indy taking all three games including the January 10th game that ended in a shootout. The Walleye will be looking to get back on the winning track against the Fuel on Saturday, their last win against Indy coming on December 13th when they defeated the Fuel 6-2 at the Huntington Center.
GOING STREAKING: Riding a three-game point streak since returning to the Fuel lineup on January 24th, Spencer Watson has earned four goals and one assist in his last four games. The third-year forward has registered 24 goals and 20 assists through 36 games this season, putting him on pace for a career-high in goals and points this season. Leading the Walleye with 22 goals and 26 assists through 40 games, Josh Kestner is one point away from passing his career-high in points. Kestner has had the Fuel’s number this season, scoring five goals and seven assists in the seven games between the two teams.
GOALTENDER BATTLE: Toledo has started three different goalies against the Fuel this season but Billy Christopoulos has appeared in the majority of the games, earning a 1-1-2-0 record through four games. Christopoulos has played in 18 games with the Walleye this season, earning a 2.61 goals-against average. The rookie goaltender sits in fourth in the ECHL in save percentage having earned a .921 save percentage through 19 games. Appearing in four games against this season Walleye, Charles Williams has earned a 2.36 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. Splitting the games with Williams, Dan Bakala has played in two games against Toledo, both coming on the road. In the two matchups that he’s earned starts in, Bakala has amassed a 2.00 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage.
LOOKING AHEAD: Opening up the month of February, the Fuel finish off three games in three days against Central Division opponents with a matchup with the Toledo Walleye. Playing their fourth game in five days on Tuesday, Indy will play three more games next weekend starting with the Tulsa Oilers on February 7th.
